ALL SCHOOL REUNION NOT GETTING ‘CHARLIED BROWNED’ AGAIN

The CPU All School Reunion got “the football pulled out from under it” last spring by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Reunion committee has decided not to trust conditions this spring and will skip this year and plan the All School Reunion for June 2022. It will be held during Pork Days which won’t have a definite date until around January 2022.

East Central Iowa STEM Festival will occur March 21, 2021

Families are invited to join the virtual East Central Iowa STEM Festival on Sunday, March 21. The festival is free and open to the public. Participants are required to pre-register to receive access to the virtual festival platform. Families can register at https://tinyurl.com/Y6RL7GJ4. The goals of the festival are to promote, inspire and engage youth in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) activities and to introduce students and parents to STEM careers.

Johns Qwik Stop to hold Post Prom/Kiwanis Fundraising Event

This Saturday from 10:00 to 1:00, John Ketchen and John's Qwik Stop will continue their history of generously supporting Vinton-Shellsburg school activities and community groups with a car wash fundraiser for the Vinton-Shellsburg Post Prom events and the Vinton Kiwanis Club. Ketchen has kicked off the event with a $1,000 donation to the Post Prom Committee.

CBI MONEY SMART WEEK POSTER CONTEST IS BACK IN 2021

Farmers Savings Bank & Trust, in conjunction with Community Bankers of Iowa (CBI) is once again sponsoring the CBI Money Smart Week Poster Contest to motivate elementary school students to learn about money. Designed by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Money Smart Week’s events were cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Money Smart Week has returned for 2021 in an all-virtual format.

American Legion to host Tenderloin Supper

The Vinton American Legion, George G Luckey Post 57, located at 105 North R Ave. in Vinton, will host a tenderloin dinner on Friday, March 12 from 5-7:00 p.m.For $8.00, you can get a 6 oz Tenderloin on a Kaiser Bun, with French Fries and a Dessert.

Trees: After Derecho 2020, What Now?Last year's derecho storm damaged and destroyed many of our trees. Iowa State Extension and Outreach Benton County is hosting a free virtual event to provide guidance on which trees to bring back and which to replace. Dr. Billy Beck, Assistant Professor and Extension Forestry Specialist, will conduct the free virtual class.

V-S FFA Chapter to hold free-will donation, grab-and-go Spaghetti Dinner

The Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter will be holding a free-will donation, grab-and-go spaghetti dinner on this Friday, February 26th from 5-7 P.M. Drive up by the animal learning lab towards the back of the high school and a student will come out to take your order. Meal includes spaghetti with sauce, a lettuce salad, garlic bread, and a brownie.
